Angelina Luo
Please tell us about yourself:
Hi! My name is Angelina and I’m a senior at Wachusett. I’m a poet and I like to sing or play piano sometimes. Constantly thinking about cute animals like dogs and frogs, sleeping, or vibing to Mitski.
Tell us some of your favorites:
I love boba/milk tea, pho, and sushi. Actually, I just like Asian food. I’m a big fan of Mitski and generally indie music or dreampop but I like a wide variety of genres. When it comes to poets, my favorites are Richard Siken, e.e. cummings, and Sappho.
Talk briefly about your inspirations:
Many of my inspirations come from a variation of other writers and artists (my friends, fellow writer mutuals, authors I aspire to be like) as well as my own personal experiences or what I observe of others. Poets like Sappho inspire me; as a result, I write a lot of sapphic poetry.
Do you have a background in the arts? If so, please describe it. If not, how did you come to writing/art/music?
I have a history with writing stories as a hobby, but I started writing poetry in my freshman year attending the school’s poetry club. I found a lot of comfort in being able to convey myself in words and metaphors both spoken and written and I eventually found my own voice & style over the course of my high school career.
Please tell us about your piece(s):
“The Caterpillar Woman” is a three-part poetry set inspired by a friend of mine who is also a poet. Here, I focus on those who have been abused; in this case, women whose bedroom doors have been slammed too often, whose numbness has been practiced in order to survive, and to tell people that even though they’ve experienced trauma, they can still be free.
Please describe your creative process:
I feel like there isn’t much of a method to how I write more than just sitting down and letting the ink spill. Sure, I’ll mess around with different phrases, I’ll start with a phrase or an idea, but it’s more satisfying to put down everything that comes into my head and (maybe) rearrange it later.

Please tell us about yourself:
Hello there! My name is Matthew Thomann, and I am a musician. I have adored everything about the performing arts for as long as I can remember, and it has been my passion my entire life. Entertaining people is the best job in the world, and it’s what I want to do for the rest of my life.
Tell us some of your favorites: (food, music, movies, artists, writers, etc.)
Overall, my personal tastes vary immensely. When it comes to music, I honestly can’t name a single genre I dislike. Everything seems appealing to me, and I love listening to anything I can access. I also have a really big interest in filmmaking, so the technical side of movies is very intriguing. I am a massive Star Wars and comic book fan, so anything superhero related has me hooked.
Talk briefly about your inspirations:
The Beatles have been my main inspiration since I was four years old. My mom played me the film “Yellow Submarine,” and I’ve been awestruck by their work ever since.
How did you come to writing/art/music?
Music and performing has always had a huge place in my life. I started off with dance when I was four, and I taught myself to play guitar and piano around the same age as well. Performing has always been something I loved doing, so it has always been obvious to me what I wanted to do. I wrote songs all throughout elementary and middle school, and I’ve just been able to get the necessary equipment to record said songs.
Please tell us about your piece(s):
All of the songs off of my album “The Universe Law” come from a very personal place. The album explores the feeling of hopelessness and not feeling welcomed by those around you. I wanted it to feel very honest and genuine, so I just wrote down exactly how I feel.
Please describe your creative process:
My creative process is essentially just throwing ideas out there and seeing what sticks. I try and think of a good melody first, then I try and put lyrics to it. It’s a long and grueling process, but it’s worth it in the end. More than 75% of the songs I’ve recorded are completely disregarded. I write a lot of really bad stuff, but some good stuff too. You have to write a lot of garbage in order to pick out the songs worth keeping.
